The tale of the leaking gearbox
seal !
Well what can we say other than a rusty gearbox spacer nearly
cost me a very expensive engine rebuild, had it not been for a
couple of guys on the "rides e-group" and TBM doing a feature
& bringing it to mine and lots of other DRZ owners attention.
It seems that the gearbox spacer
rusts, unless very periodically
cleaned and that in turn takes the outer surface from its original smooth
finish to rough as sandpaper, which in turn destroys the gearbox seal and hey
presto oil gushes out of the gearbox and if not checked results in a seized
motor !
Some engineering types are offering
stainless steel replacement spacers
and not wanting to be told twice, one was ordered together with a new
gearbox seal, 'O'-ring and because it also rusts a new seal retaining plate.
Checkout the images for the good,
the bad & the ugly, then go replace those bits
(less than £20) or at least regularly clean them before you loose that
precious
life blood from your engine .... "oil" ... thanks to the guys who
spotted it first.

No guessing which ones the steel culprit !
Caution :
Please note how the spacer was removed
with regards those two "cut-outs" & replace
accordingly.

All the new bits ready & waiting,
Suzuki part numbers
O-ring 09280-21008, Drive shaft seal 24751-29F00,
Seal retaining plate 09283-30053.
And this is were they all go :-

Note: This image maybe incorrect with regards the cut-outs
on the spacer, please check yours upon removal.
Tip: Move the fined rectifier out the damm way before
you take a screwdriver to anything else !
