Handlebar - Positions
Up till now, We''ve
been using the original low steel bars, but found out
by pure luck, that everything that appears OK, can infact be wrong
and worth changing, so long as the original set-up is documented.
Greg R explains :-
Whilst out riding last weekend I
found it difficult or just plain uncomfortable
to stand-up on the pegs and try to lift the front . After hardening the rear
shock
pre-load +1 turn, the effect was to try and pitch me further over the front.
Next stroke of luck that day came whilst visiting my local "bike"
shop &
being offered two different heights of bars for the price of one !
Off home quick to see which ones
would make (if any) difference, one pair was
very similar in height to the original (but in alloy) the other was +2"
higher with
more of a kick-back. One thing for sure I hate straight bars so these looked
a
good bet.
Next was to (for me) get very scientific
and armed with the digital camera, took
images of rider on bike, sitting & standing, using all three bars, the contrast
was
staggering, so much so that to fully appreciate the difference I've put an animation
together so you can see all three varying positions back-to-back !
I've been out for a quick ride using
the higher bars and all ready feel more comfortable
not only standing up but also sitting down. So the next meeting should be interesting
& I'll
let you know whether spending a few pounds and an afternoon has made the little
DR
handle even better. Its certainly a cheap option and no matter how powerfull
your bike
maybe, if you don't feel right then it might as well be an olde nail !
